17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a seemingly self-proclaimed neighborhood watch man in a gated community.  George Zimmerman was Hispanic/white, and Trayvon was black.  Sound familiar?

It seems every other week this happens.  Every DAY, actually, but every other week it’s public interest because of the circumstances, where it was, the ages of the people, etc.  The thing that gets me with these stories, is the racist issue.

Zimmerman PROBABLY killed Trayvon because he was black.  He is racist.

I did not kill Trayvon, and am white.

People get all crazy with racism when shit like this happens.  You see, I accept racism.  It WON’T GO AWAY.  I accept that this is not the first, nor the last race-related act of violence.  I accept that there are millions of racist people in the world.  We are all a little racist.  Sorry, but we are.  The thing about this particular case though, is that an innocent person has died, and the killer is still free.  THAT is the problem.  The problem is not that Zimmerman was racist.  He can hate blacks and whites and Jews all he wants.  But to KILL because of it, to HARM because of it, that’s different.  If he was arrested and brought to justice, the fact that he shot a black boy doesn’t matter.

Why?  Because that’s his own action.  What are we going to do now that we know he killed Trayvon because of his skin color?  Riot?  Split whites against blacks?

No.  We see these things happen, and I don’t know about you, but I almost get a sigh of relief to read that it was a white on white crime, or black on black crime, because I know then the only thing that matters in the case is whether justice is served or not.  But when it’s a white man killing a black, or a black man killing a white, I think, “aww SHIT…now the race thing is going to come up in ADDITION to the murder.”

This makes me sad that I have to think this way.  I’ve seen many black people upset about this case, and it makes me feel like I’m not allowed to be as upset.  This was a major injustice, and I’m infuriated.  I don’t care that Trayvon was black.  I don’t care that Zimmerman was white (or Hispanic).  I care that a 17 year old unarmed boy was shot after begging for his life by a crazy man.  This is the problem.  It’s not “oh he did it because the boy was black.”  NO.  What does this solve?

Like I said, this is not the end.  We’re going to keep killing innocent people, we’re going to keep killing people of opposite races.  And no matter how many times we rally, we march, it just takes a handful of people to completely shatter all we’ve done to change.  I live in a world—you live in a world—with people like Zimmerman.  I know this.  I won’t pretend I’m shocked to hear this story.  But this was one man’s thinking.

I know the police aren’t doing the right thing right now.  That’s the other injustice.  But once again, it’s not a racial thing.  The police aren’t a bunch of white men sitting in a donut shop going, “eh, it’s just a black kid.  Let the man go free.”  Zimmerman’s claim that it was self-defense seems fucking BOGUS to me, but the story he told police seemed to be legitimate, so they let him go (for now).  He was the only one out there with the boy, so his story is the only that works.  Now, the police, having found no weapon on Trayvon, hearing 911 tapes of him begging for help, and finding Zimmerman’s past…only now can they act.

I’m angry, too.  This is not a movie where you can just go after the bad guy.  You look at the scene, you look at it real long and real good, and then you act.  And based upon the information given, I’d say the police need to act…FAST.  It’s sickening it’s taking so long, and it’s sickening that this has become a racial issue.

It will do us NO good to look at this and get angry at each other.  I didn’t kill Trayvon.  YOU didn’t kill Trayvon.  There is one man who shot Trayvon.  Let’s blame him.  Let’s not let Zimmerman’s cowardly and barbaric actions add to the racial tension we already have today.  If anything, let’s let it unite us.  I don’t believe the world will ever know peace, but I believe we can make a dent.

This is the SAME person who EQUATED the making of a blanket statement about white people to the murder of an innocent, unarmed child.

The same person who claimed that they didn’t reblog something from someone else because they claimed that because that person made blanket statements about white people they were racist and “AS BAD AS THE MURDERER.“ 

This is the same person who has NOTHING about Trayvon Martin on their blog.

You know what, it’s not that you’re not allowed to talk about this because you’re white—you shouldn’t be fucking allowed to talk about this BECAUSE YOU DON’T FUCKING GET IT AND DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT AND THEREFORE SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED INTO THE GROWN-UP CONVERSATIONS.
